On the morning of September 11, 2001 at 10:03 Flight 93, traveling at 563 mph, crashed into a Somerset County field just outside Shanksville, Pennsylvania. The Boeing 747 was originally scheduled to land in San Francisco. Under the control of four terrorist, that had been seated in first class, the plane was taken over and redirected towards Washington D.C. The passengers and crew made the Heroic decision to retake control, thus forcing the terrorist to change their target plans. With fear of being over taken, the hijackers flipped the plane upside down and crashed it.  The plane was just 18 minutes short of it's proposed target, most likely the U.S. Capital. There were no survivors, all 33 passengers, 7 crew members and the 4 hijackers were killed

We first visited the Memorial site in 2008. There were only a few bench's and some fencing that had been constructed to collect gifts and memorial offerings. The actual crash site, at a distance, was off limits but was viewable from the temporary Memorial site.

Above is a artist rendering of future Memorial plans. This s a depiction of the "Field of Honor" which will have 40 grove plantings

Through this gate is the Crash Site, the Final Resting Place for the 40 Passenger and Crew members

Marking the Crash Site is a large stone that was placed over the backfilled crater.

The walk way to the Final Resting Place is only accessible to Family and Family Members
